Art Materials For Fashion Illustrations

Hi, I want to start off with thanking everyone who has subscribed, encouraged me by leaving a comment, all those who are in the #drawwithclaire challenge and my new readers. I put up this post because its one of the most requested and I am glad to eventually address it. First of all, these are not all my materials and its sad I could not put them all but I am sure this post will be sufficient for most beginners.

In case you did not know, I am now based in London, could not move all my materials with me but took the ones I could. I might purchase new ones soon and make another post as an update at the end of the year. Please note, materials can be expensive but can be good investment too. Some of them were gotten in Lagos at Artworld and CYC and some I got over the years from other countries. Don’t worry, if you’re not in Lagos, I have included the other addresses. Maybe one day, I will make a video on my materials and how I use them but for now lets get to it.

Oooh!!! Ooooohhh! I'm excited!! I want to buy materials too!! And see, I'm the first to comment!! Lol.
Claire, in my head, I really feel we are friends. Hope you remember me from my comment in your last post?
Anyway, thankGid you mentioned how materials can be expensive but great investments. It kind of reminded me of my books. I have an extensive library that I started building since University days. I haven't read the books. But hey are investments cos some are very useful now.

I may buy a pencil tomorrow and draw two lines... Let's see how it goes. :)

Hello Claire. Super duper thanks ma'am, this post is just what I need. I'll be going to art world in Lagos soon so I want to know which one of the stores you visit the most and recommend. Should I visit the one at Surulere or the the one at Ikoyi. I'd have loved to visit both stores but I school in ife which is pretty far and school is in session now so I'm trying to steal some time from school *grins*. Thanks a bunch again!

    Hi Darah,
I have visited both. I will advise you go to the main office because its bigger. Around that area are other smaller stationary stores you can get inexpensive materials. :) Im glad the post helped!

    Hi Afy,
Thanks! lol! You don't have to be good at drawing, that's the point. I'm glad youve decided to try, I look forward to seeing your sketches. :*

This is really impressive, i'm truly proud of you Claire.
...Like my tutor once said "it is as important to know what you are not, as to know what you are" so with that being said, you are in the right place and a lot of people are beginning to benefit from this colossal step taken. ☺️
Ride on Claire...I believe in you.
Well that's all I have to say, sorry it's not pencil/marker related...well we have been in the pencil game for a while now. LOL

Hi Claire. This is really great. However, how can i be creative in drawing even when I don't have an architectural background?

    September 19, 2016 Reply

    Hi Jules,

Sure you can. That's what I talked about in the changing to a design career post. You dont have to be an architect to know how to draw. You only have to make a decision to master the art. :) Once you do that. Just keep practicing.

Hi there this was very helpful thanks. I'm currently in the middle of creating a portfolio for the school I'm applying to any advice would be helpful.. Also, I was wondering what type of paper or platform do you think is best to draw my illustrations on. I really want it to be clear in the photographs because I don't know how to draw using adobe or Corel draw and so on. So pls what type of paper will compliment my illustrations and make them look bomb thankyou!
